Annual YFC Medical Mission to Samoa
Each year, YFC Asia Pacific organizes a Medical Mission Team to work beside our YFC Samoa staff to run several medical clinics in the more remote villages of Upolu, the main island of Samoa (used to be Western Samoa). In addition, there are opportunities to participate in school programs and nightly village evangelism events coordinated by YFC Samoa.
The Team
Ideally, we would like to take a team made up of members comprised of:
- Three (3) doctors,
- Three (3) nurses,
- Two (2) youth workers.
Primary Medicine, Pediatric, Internal Medicine doctors and nursing professionals are preferred for the medical positions.
The Mission
Why do we take medical and evangelism teams to Samoa?
We do this to:
- Meet the medical needs of the people in the area.
- Help YFC Samoa establish and develop relationships with Villages in remote areas of Savaii.
- Spiritually enrich the life of each volunteer.
- Enlarge the YFC and missions vision of the volunteers.
- Serve in such a way that bears a positive witness for Jesus Christ.
- Participate with YFC Samoa as they create and give opportunities for Samoan young people and families to become followers of Jesus Christ.
Our medical clinics focus on early diagnosis and basic treatment of common health problems found in Samoa. This includes diabetes, high blood pressure, skin disorders, TB, infections, dietary and common wellness issues. We work under the direction of Dr. Satupaitea Viali, BHB, MBChB (NZ), FRACP, the current Specialist Physician of the largest hospital in Samoa, the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital in Apia. Dr. Viali is on the National Board of YFC Samoa.
During the medical clinics and some evenings, YFC Samoa coordinates school, youth and Village evangelism outreach events.
