YFC Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka YFC's work with youth includes clubs; events; youth guidance; camps; tuition classes; schools and prisons. We work with young people in both English and Sinhala.

Sri Lanka has been hit by a serious drug abuse problem, the extent of which is not well known in the world. Drugs have been a big problem for schools as many youth are dropping out and turning to crime. It is estimated that 70% of the prison population of Sri Lanka are there because of drug related issues.

YFC started work to drug dependent youth in 1997 in cooperation with other Christian ministries in the country. We minister to the drug dependant, provide prevention education to schools and neighborhoods, and raise public awareness of this serious youth problem.

Through our ministry to these drug dependants, we have found that there is an acute shortage of residential centers and that they often turn away the youth that we have ministered to when they seek treatment. Therefore, we are in the process of building a Residential Rehabilitation Center just outside of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

This facility will be about to house up to 25 people inclusive of staff. We have full-time drug rehabilation counselers on our staff.
